Hammond, IN – Midland Metal Products is a family-owned and operated sheet metal fabrication company with 95+ years of experience delivering top-notch products and services to its clients. Currently run by the fourth generation of owners, the company has recently expanded its production line by implementing Salvagnini America’s P2 panel bender technology. This updated technology has significantly reduced bottlenecks in Midland’s sheet-forming operations, enabling them to deliver high-quality outputs faster than ever before.
Having spent their formative years within the company and its operations, BJ McDonald, the facility director, and his brother Marcus, the company president, have continuously explored new ways to improve their output speed and product quality to keep their customers happy. The constant search for the latest and greatest technology led them to Salvagnini America’s P2 panel bender technology.
BJ McDonald noted that they also relocated from Chicago to Hammond, Indiana, in 2019, making it their fourth location since the business was founded. He added, “Each generation has had an opportunity to reinvent, remap, reorganize, and adapt the shop to the work being done at the time. We invest heavily in equipment and always evaluate new technologies.”
Suzanne McDonald, the company’s CEO, noted that their business is built on values revolving around a solid work ethic, a hands-on attitude, and a knack for problem-solving. These values played an essential role in adopting the new technology, dramatically reducing production bottlenecks.
Specializing in producing wire, sheet metal, and tubes for clients across industries, the company’s CEO noted that the new technology has solved problems encountered at various stages of assembly, packaging, digital print, and cut operations.
After installing the P2 panel bender in 2021, Midland Metal’s metal fabrication processes have saved over 1,700 hours of capacity. McDonald noted that Salvagnini America’s P2 panel bender technology provides employees with the design and engineering skills needed to compete in today’s on-demand world. He added, “At the same time, its ease of use means I can put a low-skilled employee on the panel bender without interrupting production. I had 150 employees when I bought the panel bender. I have 175 personnel today because the P2 is simple to operate and has created more sales capacity.”
Midland Metal Products Co is confident that its continual adoption of the latest technologies will help it continue to deliver excellent results associated with production flow.
